About Us
I’ve been obsessed with skincare since I was a child. Starting around the 6th grade when I began to experience acne, I secretly began experimenting on my skin with whatever my mother had in
her beauty arsenal. This was usually expensive and totally inappropriate for my teenage skin.
From there it was off to the dermatologist and into the prescription world, which inevitably led to the use of Retin-A. This gave my rosacea effected skin a dry redness which had to be followed up with sunscreen. This left an oily film over my face. I was off to a rocky start, but I was reading magazines and scouring books for help and over the years I began perfecting what worked for me and experimenting with different products, routines and regimens to find a system that worked.
In 2013 as I was approaching my forties, my sister, Elizabeth was diagnosed with melanoma that had spread to her brain; she had to have four major surgeries to remove it all. At this time I thought about how much being from the Alabama Gulf Coast and spending so many summers at the beach in the sun, oftentimes without proper sun protection, impacted our lives beyond just the way our skin LOOKED. Were we doing things that exacerbated the aging process of our skin in the name of looking younger? Retin-A and retinol cause sun sensitivity, for some to a greater and some to a lesser degree. Working in the beauty world for the last 20+ years I had conversations with some of my favorite estheticians about a common problem they were faced with: since the advent of so much exfoliation of the skin with all of the myriad skin care creams and prescriptions, their clients were in an unhealthy cycle of over exfoliation to make the skin look youthful, then burning themselves in the sun again and going back to the esthetician or doctor for more exfoliation in the form of chemical peels or laser treatments to help the skin get over the last sunburn, then going back to the beach and
getting another sunburn over and over. This sounded exhausting!
As someone who had laser surgery for rosacea during high school, I was always particularly concerned about redness, burning, excessive sun and sensitivity but as someone approaching my forties at that time, I was also interested in age prevention. When I began reading about Bakuchiol, a plant-based retinol substitute, I was intrigued. I wanted all the anti-aging benefits of retinol without the irritation and sun sensitivity. I experimented with several different brands and while I was surprisingly happy with the results, I was underwhelmed with the formulations. With our Bakuchiol Blaster, combining Bakuchiol with White Tea, Licorice Root Extract and Hyaluronic Acid we are able to give you an all-in-one serum that helps diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles while brightening and hydrating the skin. Bakuchiol Blaster works great as a standalone product but incorporates well into any existing skin care regimen you’re already using. And because Bakuchiol doesn’t have any issues with sunlight you can use it on your face both day and night! You don’t need to damage your skin to prevent the appearance of aging.
